After being unemployed for several months, David from Blackburn was beginning to give up hope of finding work again until he joined the WHP JETS programme and soon had cause to celebrate! David had two job offers in six days.
 
Thirty-one-year-old David had been looking for work in factory production or warehousing, but his efforts had met with little success. He was referred by his Work Coach, Huzafya Mulla, at Blackburn Jobcentre Plus to Ingeus’ WHP JETS programme.
 
“I had been unemployed since November,” said David. “I have a family to support and was looking all the time, but I was feeling down because I wasn’t getting very far.”
 
Ingeus, working in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, is delivering the Work and Health Programme (WHP) expansion for Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS). It is co-financed by the European Social Fund and provides fast-paced, continuous support to participants negatively affected by COVID-19 labour market changes.
 
David didn’t have a lot of experience of online workshops but with the right encouragement from his Ingeus Employment Coach, Amina Khan, he took part and discovered more about skills he could transfer to other sectors. He was advised on how to improve his performance during job interviews and after undertaking a mock interview session, David felt his self-confidence had improved and he was now better prepared.
 
Amina Khan explained: “David excelled during his interview practise and went for a local retail position and was successful. With his new found confidence, he also applied for a production worker vacancy and again was offered the role. After careful consideration, David decided to go for the production post. Two jobs in six days of joining WHP JETS!”
 
“The JETS programme was really good,” commented David. “They suggested ways to improve my interview skills and my confidence got better. The JETS team kept in regular contact through daily texts and calls.
 
“I have now started work in a local paint factory in Blackburn and I have a responsible job managing the production belt.”
